New Invention – the Wheel

February 12, 2014

What are these strange tracks in the sand?…

Oh yea, it’s our  new dinghy wheels…

wheels-1

Actually, for me, these aren’t much of a labor-saving device.  I used to carry the back of the dinghy up the beach (the heavy end) and Cyndi would carry the lighter front.  Now I play tug of war game and drag the thing up the beach by myself.  I guess it’s a labor-saving device for Cyndi.

Kidding aside, they are really nice and I’m sorry it took us this long to get wheels.  The final push was that every visible dinghy on in Bayswater Marina had these particular wheels installed.  They work well.  Today we used them to roll/drag the dinghy up stairs on to a wharf as there was no place to tie up in the water.  -Rich

Update: This should sum it up…

Bullshit Bay

February 12, 2014

OK, It’s actually Woolshed bay, but I swear, when Cyndi says it, it always sounds like she’s saying “Bullshit Bay.”  And it might as well be today.  Here’s the ride over in the fog and rain…

As our friends Bob and Linda on Bright Angel are known to say: “I didn’t leave Seattle for this!” OK, I’ve never lived in Seattle but if it was like this, I’d leave too.

Bob and Linda - from Seattle.

That’s OK, it’s really not that bad. The rain didn’t last all that long, and we have a solution for bad weather…

Three Days, Four Bays (Rotoroa and Ponui Islands, New Zealand)

February 9, 2014

That’s a lot for us.  Kiwis often visit three or four bays each day, but not us.  One’s usually it, and we often stay in one bay for several days. (Click on a map marker below for more info.)

Those places are really special – Man O’ War that we talked about in a previous post , Rotoroa Island, and Ponui Island.  See for yourselves… Here’s a gallery of photos mostly from Rotoroa. (Click on any picture to enlarge.)-Rich
