Good Filter Idea – Maybe?

August 5, 2015

This is what’s been happening to the metal screens in my water strainers…

It’s been hard to find replacement screens. So maybe this will work…

I left the metal screen out, took a Scotch Brite pad, rolled it up, and stuck it into the top of the filter housing…

I cut it so that it was long enough to fill the bowl and so that the bowl would hold the pad in place.

I just did this yesterday. I’ll update this in a few months with the results.

By the way, I think that my screens are dissolving faster than normal due to the Maddox anodes I’m using. Here’s a post about the Maddox anodes. -Rich

Update: October 29, 2019

I’ve had this “filter” installed for some time and it’s working just fine. I would do this again. While I could clean the filter, I think it’s easier to just throw it away and stick in a new one.

I also thought that a wadded up bunch of fiberglass window screen might work well. Someday, I’ll try that. It’d make a little courser filter.

A Morning at the Mall

July 29, 2015

“I’m exhausted! I feel like I just spent the day at the mall!” Cyndi says.

We’re a long way from the mall, anchored in Saweni Bay on the west side of Fiji, but we do have internet access, and therefore, online shopping and Amazon!

About twice a year, we have Legacy Christmas. We order all the stuff you can only get in the U.S. (or at a reasonable price in the U.S.). Some of our Christmas presents aren’t all that exciting, like a new alternator regulator, but it’s the stuff that makes Legacy excited.

In a few days (or sometimes a few weeks), all these goodies start arriving at our mail forwarding service. They then charge us too much money to box it up and send it to exotic locations, like Fiji.

Ah, the cruising life! -Rich
