In the Banks Islands and Out of Internet Range

Yep, we’re alive and well if that’s what you were wondering. As well as can be with no internet that is.

“My name is Richard and I’m an internet addict!”

“Hello Richard.”

We’re in the Banks Islands in the northern part of Vanuatu and loving it. Right now we’re anchored in Waterfall Bay on Vanua Lava Island and that name is truth in advertising. Just a few hundred meters south of us is an amazing twin waterfall (sorry to say that we can’t quite see it from where we’re anchored as it’s around the other side of a hill). Yesterday, we took a two and a half mile dinghy ride to a really, really high waterfall. Wow. We spent some time playing in the fresh water pools below both of these magnificent waterfalls. It was cool (in more than one way)!

We’ll post more when we get some internet rays. -Rich

UPDATE: September 27, 2017

We’re back from the Gimme Islands… “Give me some batteries, gimme some fish hooks, gimme some cookies, some sugar, flour, wine, some cash!” While we saw some very pretty stuff in the Banks Islands (their real name), the canoes swarmed is endlessly with requests. Very few offered anything in return. Somehow, they seem to have lost the concept of trade.

It’s also a very windy place with more than a few rolly anchorages. All in all, it wasn’t really worth it for us, but your mileage may vary. Rich
