Auckland Skytower and Orbit 360 Restaurant

January 9, 2014

“I’d like to go to the Skytower for my birthday.”

“OK Cyndi, sure, we can do that.” But thinking “This is going to be one big tourist trap, with crowds, waits and a McDonalds quality meal for $200!

Wrong. Way wrong. Wrong-O-roosky Rich!

The Skytower is a class operation and the restaurant, Orbit 360, was incredible. My steak was probably the best I’ve ever had in my 55 years as a carnivore. The entire meal – appetizer, meals, two drinks and a dessert – only came to $130 NZ. An expensive meal but worth every cent for what we had and the setting we had it in. -Rich

Dinner was at 9:15 - the perfect time to get both sunset and night views of Auckland.

Did I mention it's a revolving restaurant. If you don't like the view, wait a minute and it'll change (though it was beautiful from all angles).

While we were up there, we had a chance to do a little surveying.  Here’s a picture that shows the two marinas we’ve stayed in (the Viaduct and now, Bayswater) and one we haven’t – Westhaven is just too huge for us.
