Arrived: Noumea, New Caledonia

May 15, 2015 (one day short of five mouths after we left Noumea!)

After almost exactly 9 days after leaving Sydney, and almost five months to the day after leaving Noumea last year for Australia, we’re tied up in a berth at Port Moselle. Here’s the sunrise that greeted us as we arrived…

It’s 1040 nautical miles from Sydney to Noumea.
We sailed an extra 49 miles trying to put the wind at a comfortable angle.

The current against us stole 137 miles from us – a full day’s sailing!

Our total distance through the water was 1226 nautical miles.

We used 64 gallons of fuel in light winds (we carried 94).

Maybe sailing isn’t the most efficient way to get from A to B?

Below is the executive summary – map edition. It’s a fully functional Google map. You can pan and zoom. Have a blast. -Rich

Stay Tuned

May 13, 2015

We haven’t posted in a while ’cause us two are at sea. Right now, we’re 228.4 miles from Noumea. If all goes well, we’ll keep motoring until we get in Friday morning, early. Yep, it’s been a lot of motoring, which is great for us because it goes with flat seas and calm conditions!

Stay tuned. There’s a lot to come…
Flu = Passage?
Pictures from the Passage – including some fun star shots,
Topless in Tahiti?

And a bunch of other time-wasting stuff!

Free Fitness Club! (Sydney, Australia)

May 5, 2015

A couple of weeks ago, we moved our boat to Cammeray Marina. It turned out to be great for may reasons and in general, the only marina I would recommend for a visit to Sydney.

One of those reasons that we loved it so was the free fitness club. This is me two weeks ago, when we came here…

(Maybe a little help from Photoshop to make a point.)

This is the fitness club – one hundred and ten in all, every day – sometimes twice. They call it “mount never-rest”.

And this is me after just two weeks…

(Maybe just a little, tiny bit of Photoshop to help me make my point!)

There’s even a fitness club for the local cockatoos. If there weren’t, they’d just sit around all day, eat, and get fat…

But with this handy jungle gym, they get all kinds of exercise (and the local marine stores get lots of business, providing replacement wind instruments)!

Here’s our post from when we first moved here, with some additional pictures. -Rich
