Ghost Resort, Wakaya Island

wakaya

We anchored last night off what appears to be an abandoned resort on Wakaya Island. It is supposed to be a very high end resort – one that had a reputation for chasing visiting yachts out of “their” bay. We can’t see anyone around to do the chasing. It looks closed. It feels creepy. As Fiji islands go, this one is not going to win any beauty pageants.

Off to Gau, 30 miles south (pronounced “now” from what we gather). -Rich

Birds, Fish, Birds, Fish… Oh My!

September 13, 2014 at Namena Island, Fiji

bird-morning

We’re anchored just offshore of a bird sanctuary with nesting frigates, boobies and terns. The sky is filled with birds in the morning and evening and the sound is an amazing cacophony of screeching, crying and not-so-melodic song.

Under the water, twice a day when we dive, the scene is crowded with fish of vibrant colors and infinite variation, with a bright coral background.

Oh my! -Rich
