November 25, 2013 at sea.
We’re having a lovely motorboat ride to New Zealand. We’ve been under power the whole way, four days now. The wind has been very light and the seas flat – just as predicted. It’s really been pretty nice. I got some great pictures this morning of sunrise over a flat, reflective sea that I’ll post when we get to internetland.
It’s really quiet out here this trip. Usually we see a ship every day but there’s only been one so far and it was 18 miles away from us (saw it on AIS). There don’t seem to be any other cruising boats out here either. At least there isn’t anyone else on the Drifters Net (SSB radio network). Most cruisers were either already in New Zealand by the time we left, or waiting in Fiji for some wind so they wouldn’t have to motor all the way. All in all, it’s been a nice passage so far. We have about 5 days to go. -Rich
