Kerikeri, The Town 30 Minutes Away (Bay of Islands, New Zealand)

(December 6, 2012 – March 5, 2013)

Kerikeri is a lot like Paihia, but it’s larger and has more of the sort of stores that sell the necessities of life.  Aside from the pretty, tourist-oriented area with gift shops, coffee houses, eateries, etc., there are larger stores on the outskirts of town much like we have in the States.  There’s Countdown (Albertsons), New World (Gelsons/Whole Foods), Bunnings (Home Depot), The Warehouse (Target), Dick Smith (large Radio Shack), and Noel Leeming (small Best Buy).  With all of this, plus a large produce stand/market and a terrific Sunday farmer’s market, we were here at least two or three times a week.

On top of being a nice town, Kerikeri is in really pretty area with lots of things to see nearby.  Plus it’s near some nice wineries (but that’s a subject for another blog post). -Cyndi
