Namena Island

This is a special marine reserve. We first visited on a day trip from Savusavu with Koro Sun Dive, and of all the places we dove and snorkeled, this was number one.

For our second trip we went to the island and spent 3 days diving with the resort (two dives a day). We can confirm the impression we had the previous visit: This may well be the best diving in Fiji for the variety of fish, soft and hard corals, colors and sheer beauty. The island was pretty, too.

Sadly, Cyclone Winston hit this island hard in 2016, destroying the resort. I don’t know if there are any plans to rebuild it, but for the time being you’ll need to dive with one of the Savusavu dive operations, and we think Koro Sun Dive is the best.

As far as the island itself, I assume the moorings are gone. You can anchor though, and it is pretty. I don’t know how it looks after the cyclone, but I do know vegetation grows back quickly and chances are it looks healthy again.
