Naigani Island

This beautiful little island is a convenient stopping point for cruisers transiting the channel between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Otherwise it’s rather out of the way and thus doesn’t get visited all that often. This is too bad because it’s really lovely.

While there’s a village here, the best anchorage is well away from it on the opposite end of the island, by the northernmost tip on the west side. There are scattered rocks on the bottom but plenty of sand to anchor in. Here, you’ll find hills covered with tropical green vegetation, a white sand beach, palm trees,  clear blue water, and no people–the kind of place one might imagine when dreaming of sailing off to Fiji.   And not surprisingly, this is an idyllic place to swim.
