Dakuniba

dakuniba

Hardly anyone comes here, but we went and encouraged others to go. The reason to come here: Fruit Bats! If you love them, come to this place as you will see thousands take to the air in the evening (plus you can dinghy into the mangroves and see them in their favorite trees). We went to the eastern bight of the cove. Aside from the bats, this is a beautiful place. There’s some small houses here, and a village in the next bay. If you want to visit, I hear they’re very nice and can take you to do sevusevu in the next bay.

This place a great example being able to chose your experience. You can come in, stay by yourself, see the fruit bats, and leave the next day. Or, you can come in, go ashore to meet some locals, do a sevusevu in a nearby village, and spend days interacting with the people of the village. There’s no right or wrong here; it’s up to you.

When you leave, you do have the option of taking the inland pass to Viani Bay. We didn’t do that, but we would if we get back in the area.

(Sevusevu Optional)
