Caqalai Island and adjoining Snake Island are located about a mile and a half north Leleuvia (a pretty and yachtie friendly island off the Viti Levu coast). Caqalai Island has lots of palm trees and a youth hostel, but not much to offer cruising yachts.
Snake Island is a tiny sand island which has some interesting snorkeling.
At low tide there’s a tidal flat that connects Snake and Caqalai Islands, making it possible to walk between the two. We’d visited Snake Island by dinghy from Leleuvia Island on an earlier trip, and passing by on a subsequent trip we wondered if it would be possible to anchor there. After taking a look, we determined it probably would be possible, but it just didn’t seem that appealing. We’d prefer to take a mooring at Leleuvia Island then take a dinghy out to this spot.
