These are a few of the beautiful sunsets we had at Marina Taina in Papeete.

We rented a car, mostly to fill our propane tank, but also to play tourist and see the island. Along with Larry and Nelda from Diamond Girl, we accomplished both tasks.
First stop, a McDonald’s (McCafe actually – desperate Starbucksless times call for desperate measures). Turns out this McDonald’s was near and a tribute to Teahupoo, a famous surfing spot with gigantic, massive waves. The closest we got to the waves was posing in front of the life-size mural.
Then a beautiful, short walk to a waterfall.
And Lunch, of course!

Explore, eat, explore, eat, eat, eat. That’s our life. We’re making up for the lack of Starbucks by eating all the poisson cru we can get our hands on (raw fish!).
Here’s the site of this days dining assult.
We found Leffe – our favorite beer.
And of course, poisson cru.
This is the central market where they sell everything!
And Cyndi almost had to carry me out of the hardware store.

We did something really cool while at Tahiti – along with the crew of Diamond Girl, we took a safari tour in to the center of the island – Highly recommended. Our guide, Sidney, loaded us on to the bench seats in the back of a four wheel drive pickup truck and off we went. Here’s some of what we saw.

We saw lots of waterfalls like this one.
And this one.
We stopped here for some swimming.
Larry, Nelda and Cyndi cooling off.
We drove beside, across and through a river almost the entire trip.
Stunning scenery like this and too much more to show here.
We turned around and headed back at the overlook above this beautiful lake. What a great day! -Rich

Here are some random pictures of things around Papeete. What a great town!
This beautiful harbor-front path is right across from downtown Papeete.
It seems the most popular sport here is rowing.
This is the public garden at one of the municipal buildings.
The sunset view of Moorea, about 20 miles away.
