We skipped through Tongatapu quickly on our way to NZ in 2012. This time (May/June 2014) we’re staying longer – and kicking ourselves for not spending more time here last time. Update 2018: Since the time we created this map, Tonga has been hit by at least three cyclones, one of which did heavy damage to the Tongatapu area. We don’t know how the little islands are faring now, but hopefully they’ve recovered. Sadly, we’d assume the reefs were damaged and the snorkeling may no longer be worthwhile.
